SDEC inks memoranda of understanding at conference

KUCHING: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) inked several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with various companies during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2024 here.

The MoU signing ceremony, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Oct 16, was witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The first MoU was between SDEC and TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd.

This MoU is subsequent to the Memorandum of Collaboration in October last year, and for the realisation of project supply, delivery, and implementation of wide area network link for SDEC hubs.

Meanwhile, the second MoU was signed between SDEC and Powerplants Australia, where the parties will explore potential partnership and Joint Venture (JV) opportunities in the adoption and implementation of sustainable agriculture technology for the agriculture sector in Sarawak.

The third MoU signing ceremony saw SDEC between MRANTI, Tabungan Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas), and Startup Borneo.

This MoU which will see the establishment of the Strategic Collaboration of the Sarawak Technology and Innovation Sandbox Pilot Programme between NTIS, SDEC, Tegas, and Startup Borneo will not only provide new economic opportunities to the people but also spur entrepreneurship development, attract foreign investment, and create high-value job opportunities in emerging tech-driven industries in Malaysia.

SDEC also signed a MoU with the World Innovation, Technology, and Services Alliance (WITSA).

This collaboration focuses on developing Sarawak’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem in several key areas to serve not only Sarawak but also the broader Southeast Asia region.

In addition, SDEC will work with Kintone Southeast Asia Sdn Bhd to support the digitalisation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak.

This partnership aims to provide SMEs with digital tools, resources, and training to enhance their operational efficiency, improve customer engagement, and increase their competitiveness in the digital economy.

Also, SDEC will be collaborating with Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), and Angkasa X in areas such as human capital development, AI-driven technological solutions, and space-related industries.

All parties will jointly work to establish satellite ground stations, AI data centres, and space economy development in Sarawak.

Abang Johari later witnessed the MoU signed between Centexs, Huawei Technologies (Malaysia), Solarvest Borneo, and Greenbay Ces.

The MoU is to provide Hyperscale Green Data Centre Training facility for the purpose of talent development.

Besides that, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) also inked a MoU with PLUM Consulting London LLP.

The MoU covers several key areas of collaboration, which include cooperation on telecommunication policies and guidelines, spectrum management, industry practices, and standards.

SMA also signed a MoU with Measat Global Berhad where the parties will focus on various areas of cooperation including satellite operations and management, the development of space, satellite, and launching policies, guidelines, training, and industry development.

Additionally, the agreement covers collaboration in satellite commercialisation and the sharing of information related to processes and Measat’s roadmap and activities in owning and operating satellites.

Another MoU was between Sarawak Information Systems (Sains) and MSC Trustgate, where the MoU is to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise, as well as the commercialisation of Digital Signature Authentication Solutions.

The partnership also aims to help build local talents in developing Certificate Authority solutions.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and NetRunner will work together in connection with the sale and purchase of electricity by year 2030 including the sharing of relevant information and setting out the possible framework and working relationships relating to the project.

Later, SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd inked a MoU with five companies namely Silicon Catalyst LLC, Siemens Electronic Design Automation, Cambridge Microelectronics Limited, The Hive Climate AI, and Weeteq.

The MoU marks the start of collaboration between respective parties on the development of a new AI controller and compound semiconductor chip. The scope of collaboration includes outline of partnership model, research and development, knowledge sharing and potential product commercialisation.

Lastly, the Sarawak government and Malaysian Immigration Department also inked a MoU.

The MoU is between the Sarawak government through the Immigration and Labour Management Unit, the Department of the Premier of Sarawak and the Immigration Department of Malaysia on integrating the Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA) System and Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs).

The integration contributes to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of both agencies in managing immigration matters in Sarawak.
