KUCHING: A registration drive for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) and the Senior Citizen Health Benefits (SCHB) Programme will take place this weekend from Oct 19 to 20.

According to organising chairman Sih Hua Tong, the event is jointly organised by six branches of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) from Kuching, Batu Kawa, Padungan, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kitang and Batu Lintang. The event will be held at Dewan Sa’ati from 9am to 5pm.

“Applicants for the Kenyalang Gold Card, which provides benefits to senior citizens aged 60 and above, must have Sarawakian status indicated by the ‘K’ on their IC or be permanent residents with a Red IC and Sarawakian status.

“The Kenyalang Gold Card will be issued on the spot for those who meet the criteria and bring their necessary documents, including their original and photocopied ICs,” he said.

Meanwhile, for those applying for the SCHB Programme, successful applicants will receive RM500 in medical benefits, which are non-cash and cannot be withdrawn as cash.

“The criteria for the SCHB include being 60 years or older with a ‘K’ status and a household income of RM7,000 or below. Applicants are encouraged to complete their forms online before attending the event, though on-site assistance will also be available,” he said.

He also mentioned that applicants who are unwell or unable to attend may send a representative or next of kin to register on their behalf, provided they bring both the original and a printed copy of the identity card.

Sih reassured the public that the event will be staffed adequately, with additional crew members prepared to handle a potentially large turnout.

Also present during the press conference was Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts. Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew.
