SIBU: The implementation of Malaysia Techlympics is in line with the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Action Plan (DSTIN) 2021-2030.

Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) deputy secretary-general Ruziah Shafei said DSTIN stressed the implementation of various initiatives of science, technology and innovation (STI) integrated, consistently and inclusive, thus increasing awareness among Malaysians.

According to her, the main goals and objectives of the organising of Malaysia Techlympics is STI culture to target groups through hands-on and informal approaches and through experiential learning methods as well as competition that involves students and youth of all ages, genders and races.

“Currently the STI activities introduced are more focused on fostering and increasing their interest in STI and encouraging the production of innovation ideas and uncovering talent among Malaysians.

“Therefore, MOSTI is committed to implementing initiatives to foster students and youth interest in STI through the Malaysia Techlympics Program,” she said at the Malaysia Techlympics for Sarawak Zone 2024 held at Sibu Indoor Stadium here, today (Oct 18).

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn was in attendance to officiate at the event’s launch.

Ruziah said, among the fast -growing technologies is the artificial intelligence (AI) technology that is widely used in the field of business and a number of related industries.

Among the benefits are improving efficiency and Increased productivity in which this technology helps in handling daily tasks and enables employees for the implementation of high -value tasks, she explained.

Looking at the importance of this technology to the country, she informed that the Malaysian Techlympics activities and competitions also emphasised the latest technology aspects such as coding, computing, three-dimensional (3D) printing, drone technology and more as the early exposure for students and youth In the rapid technology of today.

“MOSTI is of the view that such a programme is important to expose participants especially to connecting the latest technologies are in line with the mission to boost Malaysia on the global innovation value chain.

Touching on the programme, she said, over 718 students out of 55 schools from all over Sarawak competing together in the Malaysia Techlympics 2024 competition at Sarawak Zone level.
