KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Neighbourhood Carnival or Karnival Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) 2025 will be held on a bigger scale since the event was first mooted in 2022.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this was to ensure that members of the KJM under the administration of DBKU interacted more closely with each other.

“God willing, we will ensure that the events that have been held in this edition will be enhanced in the future. If possible, increase the number of events to increase the spirit of loyalty among our fellow friends,” he said when speaking at the DBKU KJM closing ceremony here, today.

The two-day event, running from from Oct 19 and 20, is being held for the third consecutive year and was attended by hundreds of residents living under DBKU jurisdiction at Padang Merdeka here.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the minister in-charge of DBKU said activities such as this are needed especially to foster stronger community bonds, promote unity and encourage the city’s residents to be active in community life.

“This event is not only a platform to strengthen neighbourhood ties but also to boost friendship and unity among residents in the DBKU administrative area.

“Initiatives like this are very important to ensure social well-being and unity in our communities so that they are always preserved. Apart from that, programmes like this also provide opportunities for us to interact, share ideas, and increase cooperation between residents and DBKU in various aspects such as safety, cleanliness, and urban well-being.

“This is in line with DBKU’s efforts to ensure that Kuching continues to remain a Clean, Beautiful, Safe, Smart, and Sustainable City,” he said.

He also hopes that the spirit of the neighbourhood that has been built here will continue to be nurtured and strengthened through various activities carried out, especially in the context of community programmes, thus creating a more friendly, united and harmonious community atmosphere.

Among the activities held during the KJM DBKU Carnival are sports events such as badminton, futsal, sepak takraw, silat tournaments, sukaneka, chess competition, carom competition, Dam Haji, KJM product bazaar and many more that empower noble values in the society, such as help, respect, and the spirit of togetherness.
