MIRI: A 69-year-old man died following a serious car accident on Jalan Miri-Bintulu, Miri, on Sunday (Oct 20) afternoon.

The crash occurred near the Borneo Medical Centre, when the man’s vehicle, a Perodua Myvi, veered off course and hit a tree at the road divider.

The incident was confirmed by Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, who said the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling from the city centre.

The impact of the crash left the car’s front severely damaged, and the driver suffered multiple injuries, including severe trauma to his right leg and abdomen.

Emergency responders rushed the man to Miri Hospital, where medical teams worked to stabilise him.

However, despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at 4.36 pm, just over two hours after the crash.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
