SEMATAN: A local man, reported missing after being swept away by strong currents while swimming across the river in Kampung Terusan Jaya, was found drowned early this morning (Oct 21).

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Mohamad Nazratul Kamil, was discovered by villagers at 1.49 am, about 1km from where he was last seen.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), rescuers were immediately dispatched to retrieve the body and brought it to the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

The body was later handed over to the police for further action, including transport to the hospital.

The team ended the operation at 3.25 am.

On Oct 20, Nazratul was swept away by strong currents at about 2.10 pm while attempting to swim across the river, reportedly while carrying snails.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at 3.50 pm, and teams were quickly deployed to the scene, about 31km away.
