KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will celebrate its 20th anniversary this Saturday (October 26) with a grand dinner at the Sheraton Hotel.

The event marks two decades of the party’s significant contributions to Sarawak’s political landscape since its establishment in 2004 by the late Tan Sri Dr. James Jemut Masing.

Leaders from all 39 party divisions across Sarawak, including PRS President Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, will be in attendance. Elected representatives, comprising Assemblymen (ADUNs) and Members of Parliament (MPs), along with the party’s Supreme Council members, will also participate.

“This milestone reflects the resilience and unity of PRS over the years. We take pride in commemorating our journey with an evening that pays tribute to our heritage and showcases the cultural diversity that fortifies our party. It will be an unforgettable night for all of us,” said PRS Youth Chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan in a press statement.

The celebration will encompass traditional activities, commencing with welcoming rituals like the miring, pantun, and the ‘gendang pampat’ performance.

“Cultural showcases by the Iban, Orang Ulu, and Bidayuh communities will enrich the evening’s festivities, spotlighting Sarawak’s diverse ethnic tapestry,” the statement continued.

The main event will feature the President’s speech, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and a toast, carried out by the traditions of the Iban, Orang Ulu, and Bidayuh ethnic groups.

The night’s entertainment will include performances by renowned local artists, including the band Masterpiece, Iban singer Ricky Andrewson Ngalai — known for his hit song “Bekikis Bulu Betis” — and artists Karen Libau and Shirley Ayor. The event is expected to be vibrant, with many attendees adorned in traditional attire.

“The dinner is set to be a spirited and colourful affair, celebrating both the heritage and the future of PRS,” the statement concluded.
