MIRI: The Borneo Jazz Festival 2024 promises to be more than just a celebration of jazz; it is a showcase of culture, creativity, and community, said Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang at a press conference held on Tuesday.
Speaking about the festival’s significance, Yii emphasized that the event is a platform for uniting diverse audiences through the universal language of music.
“This festival not only showcases world-class jazz music but also brings together people from diverse backgrounds to share in the universal language of music,” Yii noted.
He expressed pride in this year’s impressive lineup of local and international artists performing from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the Musical Corridor, Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri.
The star-studded lineup includes legendary Malaysian songstress Sheila Majid, celebrated American jazz drummer and producer Makaya McCraven, renowned Indonesian trumpeter Rio Sidik, and the mesmerizing Shang Sisters.
Other notable performances will come from the WVC Jazz Ensemble and the captivating Clarinet Trio. Guiding the audience through the musical journey will be the festival’s charismatic emcee, Prem Shaker.
Yii also highlighted the festival’s role in elevating Miri’s status as a rising destination for international music lovers and tourists.
“The Borneo Jazz Festival offers a unique cultural experience and strengthens Miri’s position as an emerging destination for international music lovers and tourists,” he stated.
“I encourage everyone, whether you are a long-time jazz enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable weekend, to join us and experience the magic of jazz under the stars.”
Looking forward, Yii expressed his hope that the festival will continue to grow in scale and impact, fostering unity through music while boosting the local economy by drawing more visitors to the city.
“We hope that the Borneo Jazz Festival will continue to grow, both in scale and impact, fostering a sense of unity through music while also boosting the local economy by attracting more visitors to our Miri City,” Yii added.
Also in attendance at the press conference were Ariffin Mohamad, Deputy Mayor of Miri City; Abdul Rahman Taupek, Acting City Secretary of Miri City Council; Denva Ajeng Wen, Manager of the Visitor Information Centre Miri representing the Sarawak Tourism Board; and Allen Jude Pio Stanley representing Deckworks Events & Entertainment Perkongsian Liabiliti Terhad.
With a remarkable lineup of talent and strong support from local leaders, the Borneo Jazz Festival 2024 is set to be a cultural and musical highlight, showcasing Miri City as a hub for arts and entertainment in the region.
