MIRI: Minister for Transport Sarawak and Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin underscored the critical need for meticulous assessment of project designs funded through the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) before implementation.

His recent inspection of the Desa Pujut 2 Recreational Park revealed concerns regarding design and construction issues, notably water ponding and ground cracks.

Lee urged local authorities to address these issues promptly to ensure project efficacy, stating, “I hope the council will closely review the design of such projects… These must be addressed thoroughly to avoid further deterioration.”

Expressing worry about stagnant water leading to mosquito breeding, he emphasized the urgency of resolving water ponding problems.

Lee stressed, “Water ponding isn’t just inconvenient, it creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It’s unhealthy, and I want the council to act on this immediately.”

Desa Pujut 2 Recreational Park is part of Lee’s RTP initiative to transform open spaces into community parks, providing recreational facilities for residents and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Lee highlighted the social benefits of these parks, aiming to strengthen community bonds and mutual understanding among residents.

“We want to develop these parks so that residents can use them for activities like jogging, morning or evening exercises, or simply spending time outdoors with their families,” Lee explained.

He hopes these spaces will encourage interaction and foster a stronger sense of community.

“As people come together in these parks, they’ll get to know one another better, strengthening the ties within our community. That’s one of the core goals of these projects under my RTP,” Lee concluded.
