Man jailed, fined for property damage and substance abuse

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to 12 months in prison for running amok and damaging household properties, resulting in losses estimated at RM1,000.

Awang Jazli Awg Jalal, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to the charge framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

He committed the offence at around 4.30am at a house in Kampung Semariang Batu on Oct 20.

Based on the case facts, Awang Jazli’s mother was alerted by noises coming from the ground floor, where she found her son behaving erratically and causing damage to household items.

He reportedly broke a wooden table, a fan, a wooden chair, an iron rack and several kitchen items.

The mother, unable to determine the reason for his sudden outburst, lodged a police report and her son was arrested at 5.06am the same day.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Awang Jazli was fined RM3,500, in default eight months in prison, and placed under two years of police supervision after pleading guilty to abusing methamphetamine.

The drug offence occurred on July 4, 2022 at around 5.30pm at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) Office.

The charge is made under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted both cases while Awang Jazli was unrepresented by counsel.
