KUCHING: A visit was made to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at SK Beradek on Tuesday (Oct 22) to assess its readiness for the upcoming Northeast Monsoon.
The visit was led by Kuching Division Resident Dayang Joanita Azizah Abang Morshidi, accompanied by officers from the Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM), representatives from the school, the Health Department, the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), and several local leaders.
The primary objective of the visit was to evaluate the condition of the PPS and ensure that all necessary measures were in place to offer maximum protection for potential flood victims.
The team also aimed to confirm that essential supplies, such as food, water, and shelter, would be adequately provided in the event of an emergency.
The school reaffirmed its commitment by ensuring that the centre would provide a safe and comfortable space for evacuees.
Several evacuation drills are also planned to train volunteers and staff on handling potential emergencies.
The visit concluded with a call for all parties to collaborate in ensuring the safety of the community during the monsoon period.
Notably, a similar visit was conducted at PPS SK Beradek on Nov 15, 2023, as part of preparations for the 2024/2025 Northeast Monsoon.
