BETONG: The Randau Social Development (RPS) programme is an effective platform for community empowerment through education.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that it not only enhances education but also raises awareness and addresses social issues within communities to improve the overall well-being of individuals, families, villages, longhouses, zones, and districts.

He emphasized that social development is a pivotal focus of the government, encompassing various demographics such as children, adults, and the elderly.

“The Sarawak government has initiated various programs that support individuals from early childhood through their later years.

“We do not overlook the elderly; numerous programs are tailored to ensure they can live out their final years comfortably, including benefits from the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC).

“Among the most recent offerings is free treatment at selected private clinics, providing benefits of up to RM500 annually,” he stated during the Betong Division RPS Program at Rh Kelimbang Jaman, Layar last Sunday (October 20).

In line with the theme “Social Well-Being, Our Responsibility,” the program aligns with the Sarawak government’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, ensuring that no one is left behind in the development process.

Consequently, Uggah urged the Betong Resident’s office and the Social Development Council to extend such programs to more locations within Betong.

Also in attendance were Betong Resident Richard Michael Abunawas, Betong District Officer Alfred Geling Ason, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Tay Nguan Hua, Tuai Rumah Panjang Penyulok Kelimbang Jaman, and others.
