MIRI: Sarawak Immigration Department personnel arrested 30 foreign nationals, including three children, in a series of operations last Monday (Oct 21).

Raids were conducted at 11 locations around Miri, targeting commercial stores, construction sites, eateries and residential houses.

The early morning raids followed public complaints and intelligence gathering by the Miri immigration enforcement unit.

“A total of 100 individuals were screened for valid documentation, with 30 taken into custody for overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

“The largest group of detainees comprised 19 foreign workers arrested at a construction site in Luak area.

“The detainees, comprising 19 men, eight women and three children, are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” the department said.

Meanwhile, the public is encouraged to provide information on the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest immigration enforcement office.
