KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching responded promptly after being informed about a fire that devastated several homes in Kampung Tringgus Bong, Bau earlier this week.

Founder of Hope Place, Kelvin Wan visited the village earlier in the week and met with the village head, Midia Sitat. Wan personally delivered essential aid to the affected households, including food supplies, hygiene products, drinking water, bath towels, and school supplies.

According to its press statement, the village experienced a blackout that night, prompting many residents to rely on candles for light. Unfortunately, an elderly man living alone fell asleep while his candle remained lit, sparking a fire that engulfed four homes.

Of the four, one house was completely destroyed, while three others suffered extensive damage, with 60 per cent of its structures burned.

In total, 20 villagers were affected by the fire, and they were housed temporarily at the Tringgus Bong Multipurpose Hall at the moment. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
