SIBU: Brooke Drive Neighbourhood Committee under the Ministry of National Unity successfully organised a ‘Free Health Screening cum Government Mobile Service’ programme at the building next to Xin Fu Yuan Church in Brooke Drive here recently.
According to the committee’s chairperson, Melinda Wong Kwong Hung, the event received overwhelming response from the public.
She revealed that a total of 1,028 various screening tests and services were done during the event.
The health screening tests, she stated, included checking of Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure and glucose, Pap smears, HPV DNA and Registration subsidy for Mammogram, Doctor and Pharmacist’s consultations, dental checking, hearing tests, Eye Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism and Clinical Breast Examinations, test kits for colon cancer and a health exhibition.
She said medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, an audiologist, optometrist, medical assistants and government officials were present to cater to the required services by the public who attended.
“We hope the health screening tests will help in identifying those who are at risk or having any condition or disease that you don’t know about. No doubt, early detection of diseases results in better management and treatment of the disease, which increases the chances of better health outcomes.
“Besides health screening, various government departments also set up mobile booths to offer their respective services. For example, the EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) booth provided full EPF services to the attendees.
“Sibu Divisional Community Welfare Office also helped in the application of Kenyalang Gold Cards, Senior Citizen Medical Benefits and also applications for other assistance. All the relevant information had indeed benefited those who came to the event,” she enthused.
“Prevention is better than cure,” Wong said, adding it was everyone’s hope to enjoy a healthy body.
