KUALA LUMPUR: Viu, a Hong Kong based ‘over-the-top’ (OTT) leading video streaming provider in the region, has acquired 42 titles from TVS (TV Sarawak), making Sarawak’s content collectively available for the first time to Viu subscribers.

This agreement, facilitated by MyContent Distribution (MCD), allows selected programmes from Sarawak to be enjoyed by a wider audience.

“MCD played a key role in ensuring the success of this deal, opening up opportunities for broader exposure,” according to a press statement by TVS yesterday (Oct25).

This acquisition also paves the way for the creation of a special Sarawak category on the platform, enabling viewers to appreciate the cultural and artistic heritage of Sarawak.

“We are proud to collaborate with Viu and TVS to present great stories from Sarawak. The diversity of unique content now available on Viu highlights the extraordinary talent and creativity from the region, and we are excited to see these programmes receive the recognition they deserve. This partnership sets a new benchmark in regional content distribution,” said Lyn Nasihin, managing director of MCD.

This initiative offers a variety of programmes, including award-winning documentaries like Guardians of the Shore and popular local series like Ram Ram Rep and the Iban-language sitcom Tembawai Kanyuk.

These captivating stories are now available to viewers who may not have had the chance to watch them before.

One of the standout titles, Guardians of the Shore, directed by Mark Nyambang, highlights Sarawak’s pioneering efforts in marine conservation, particularly the construction of the world’s longest artificial reef barrier.

This documentary has received international acclaim, earning the Bronze Award at the ContentAsia Awards 2024 and a Special Merit Award at the Kuala Lumpur International Eco Film Festival 2023.

Another viewer favourite, Ram Ram Rep, directed by Josh Nawan, is a psychological drama filled with deep storylines and strong performances.

Similarly, Tembawai Kanyuk, the first sitcom in the Iban language, has captured many hearts with its humorous take on life in Sarawak’s longhouses, emphasising the importance of unity in diversity.
