SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) advocates a shared responsibility of taking care of public health and the environment together with the communities.

In stating this, SRDC Environment and Public Standing Committee chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie said the council must first raise awareness as issues related to public health and environment requires concerted efforts of prevention.

“The best solution to eradicate issues such as rabies and dengue needs the collective effort with relevant authorities as prevention is always better than cure,” he said at a community programme organised by SRDC at Jonathan Budun longhouse in Tanjung Penasu here yesterday (Oct 26).

Lau, who is representing the council’s chairman, Sempurai Petrus Ngelai highlighted that the programme was a direct way for the council to communicate and provide accurate information to the community.

“On behalf of SRDC, we are in gratitude with all concerned especially Tuai Rumah Jonathan for taking the initiative to collaborate with SRDC to organise the programme which focus on health education.
