KUCHING: AZAM Sarawak held the “Anak Pantey” programme at Pantai Pasir Pandak near here recently, engaging 103 participants, including local residents, youth volunteers, and various agencies, in a community-led beach cleanup to support environmental conservation.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who officiated at the event, emphasised the community’s role in environmental protection.

“Preserving our beaches and environment is a shared responsibility, not solely on the government. Local communities, youth, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the private sector must work together to raise awareness and foster responsibility,” he stated.

He added that with Sarawak’s plans for tourism and development, including the ART system network, such initiatives could turn coastal communities into tourism destinations.

AZAM Sarawak’s CEO, Ali Suhaili, highlighted that the programme supported sustainable development, aiming to instil a ‘green’ culture in the community.

“Environmental sustainability is essential for the well-being of future generations,” he said, reaffirming AZAM’s dedication to environmental initiatives aligned with Sarawak’s sustainability goals.

AZAM Sarawak plans to continue its commitment to educating and empowering local communities on environmental sustainability, aligning with the state’s Post COVID-19  Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
