KUCHING: The Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG) is taking proactive steps to resolve issues surrounding stalled housing projects in Sarawak that have encountered implementation difficulties.
Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government (Public Health and Housing) Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said a meeting was conducted together with the Technical Committee for Monitoring Problematic Housing Projects (JKTP) recently to resolve these setbacks.
During the meeting, he listened to the grievances of home buyers and assured them of the government’s commitment to safeguarding their interests.
“Protecting buyers’ rights and ensuring the timely delivery of their homes remained a top priority,” he said.
The meeting particularly focused on two housing projects in Bintulu that have been classified as “sick” and one delayed project in Kuching.
Experts from key agencies, including the Sewerage Services Department, Land and Survey Department, Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), provided technical insights and guidance to help developers meet the necessary requirements for project completion.
Therefore, he urged all developers involved to comply with the required standards set by the authorities to avoid further delays. Non-compliance with regulations could lead to additional setbacks in the delivery of housing projects.
Meanwhile, at the meeting, it served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss solutions to expedite the completion of delayed and “sick” housing projects in the state.
The JKTP meeting brought together developers, technical agencies, and representatives of house buyers to identify practical measures to address the challenges developers face.
It also allowed for open dialogue, ensuring that the concerns of home buyers were heard and addressed by the relevant authorities.
The ministry, through JKTP, continues to foster collaboration between developers and relevant agencies to improve the efficiency of housing delivery in Sarawak and ensure that home buyers’ rights are protected.
