KUCHING: The Indian community here is looking forward to more organisation of Deepavali bazaars in the future.
This is because such bazaars provide a platform to showcase traditional Indian food, culture, and festive customs.
During a visit by Sarawak Tribune on Sunday, it was observed that the first ever Deepavali Bazaar held at the Indian Association Kuching (IAK) here has people of different walks of life visiting the venue.
Nagaraja Sammugam, 27, who helps his mother operate a food stall, remarked that the Deepavali bazaar offers a rich cultural experience, featuring traditional music, festive lighting, and stalls showcasing handmade items by artisans.
“Most include food stalls, cultural performances, and traditional decorations that create a unique festive atmosphere, making it more than just a shopping event,” he said.
Meanwhile, 14-year-old Jasvinni also said she is glad to see such a bazaar being held in the city.
“This year’s Deepavali bazaar is the first of its kind held here in Kuching; there has never been a bazaar like this before,” she said.
Jasvinni, who was selling sweet items and dessert, said there were quite a few customers visiting her stall.
Yesterday (Oct 27) marked the last day of the bazaar where it had featured a variety of stalls and vendors selling Indian cuisine, garments and Henna artworks, as well as cultural performances.
The bazaar was jointly organised by Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and IAK.
