SIBU: Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili has dismissed social media claims suggesting that Sibu is “keras” (loosely interpreted as unsafe) following a recent shooting incident at Lorong Wong King Huo 21 last Friday.
He assured the public that the security situation in Sibu remains under control and that police are actively investigating the case.
“There is no problem. There is no [security] issue,” he told reporters after the monthly police assembly at the Sibu police headquarters on Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Monday (Oct 28).
Regarding the shooting case, ACP Zulkipli stated that no suspects have been arrested so far, and the investigation is ongoing.
“What we know so far is that the weapon used by the suspect in the incident is believed to be a shotgun. The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, is still receiving treatment at a private medical centre here,” he added.
A background check revealed that the 46-year-old victim has five prior criminal records. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
In a separate incident involving the theft of over RM300,000 in cash from a parked car on Jalan Kampung Nyabor, ACP Zulkipli stated that police are conducting a thorough investigation.
“This includes reviewing footage from the bank’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) and car dash cams to identify the suspects,” he said.
Last Friday (Oct 25), a 27-year-old employee of a company lost RM301,231 when a man smashed her car windscreen and stole the cash.
According to ACP Zulkipli, the victim had withdrawn the cash—belonging to her company—from a bank prior to the incident.
“Initial investigations found that the robbers followed the woman after she withdrew the money from the bank. When the victim parked her vehicle in the car park, one of the two suspects broke the driver’s side window and stole the bag, which was on the seat next to her.
“After snatching the bag, the suspect ran to his accomplice, who was waiting on a motorcycle,” he said.
