PUTRAJAYA: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) was awarded the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Appreciation Award in conjunction with the National-level World Town Planning Day 2024 celebration.

The award was presented by Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming in Putrajaya on Monday (Oct 28).

The award was given based on the measurement of the Malaysian Urban-Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets) for 2024, in which areas under DBKU’s administration achieved sustainable city status.

It manifests the level of urban sustainability, identify each city’s strengths and weaknesses, and assess urban management performance within local government areas.

The Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK12) targets that by 2025, a total of 120 cities in Malaysia will achieve Sustainable City Status based on MURNInets.

The award was received by DBKU mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman.
