PUTRAJAYA: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been awarded as one of Malaysia’s twelve most sustainable cities, receiving the prestigious “Most Sustainable City Award 2024” from Minister of Housing and Local Government Malaysia Nga Kor Ming.

The award ceremony was held at the Everly Hotel Putrajaya in conjunction with the national celebration of World Town Planning Day 2024.

The award recognises MPP’s outstanding achievements in sustainable development, which have been assessed under the Malaysian Urban-Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets 2.0).

This framework, consisting of 51 indicators across six dimensions — Competitive Economy, Sustainable Environmental Quality, Healthy Communities, Land Use and Optimal Natural Resources, Efficient Infrastructure and Transport, and Effective Governance—aims to evaluate and promote sustainable growth within cities and municipalities.

In a statement today (Oct28), MPP said its deputy chairman Cr Abang Ismawi Abg Ali represented the council at the ceremony to receive the award.

MPP was also awarded the “Smart City Early Adopter” status. It was among 18 local councils across Malaysia that received this commendation, further highlighting MPP’s commitment to embracing innovative solutions for urban challenges,
