SIBU: A newborn baby boy was discovered abandoned in a dirty rubbish basin outside a shop along Jalan Tong Sang this morning (Oct 29).
The infant, who was still attached to his umbilical cord, was found around 9 am by members of the public.
It is believed that the baby was born just a few hours earlier.
The newborn was rushed to a nearby private hospital for an initial check-up before being transferred to Sibu Hospital for further observation.
Photos and videos circulating on Facebook show the distressing scene: the baby was found in a foetal position, his head resting on a plastic bag within the basin.
His face was pressed against the grimy, mold-streaked walls, with his umbilical cord draped over the basin’s edge.
Police are currently investigating the incident.

The newborn baby boy is wrapped in a cloth before being taken to a nearby private hospital for a preliminary check-up.
