BINTULU: The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) is ramping up efforts to support teachers with a series of targeted workshops under the second phase of the Dual Language Programme (DLP).

Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn stressed the importance of these workshops in empowering teachers, particularly those who have yet to complete foundational DLP training.

“Backed by additional funding from the Sarawak government, MEITD is striving to reach more educators, equipping them with the necessary skills to teach science and mathematics in English – an essential component of the DLP.”

He said in his speech during the launch of this year’s phase of the DLP here on Tuesday (Oct 29).

Sagah further said quality training and ongoing support are the backbones of the DLP’s success, and the programme is important in providing students with essential English language skills to thrive in an increasingly globalised world.

“The ministry is dedicated to ensuring teachers receive hands-on guidance through high-quality, interactive workshops that focus on both teaching methodologies and subject expertise.

“These efforts are part of a larger strategy to improve the quality of education in Sarawak, in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said.

He added in addition to the training, the ministry is also committed to offering continuous support to schools, teachers, and students across the state.

Sagah also called for close collaboration with the Sarawak Education Department to ensure that all teachers complete their training by the end of the year.

He reaffirmed MEITD’s long-term commitment to teacher development, stressing that investment in DLP workshops is crucial to Sarawak’s broader educational goals.
