Raids in plantation quarters net 14 foreigners

The immigration enforcement officers arrest 14 foreign men during the early morning raid at an oil palm plantation.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Fourteen foreign men had their sleep interrupted when immigration officers suddenly swept through the workers’ quarters in Sungai Sui on Tuesday (Oct 29).

The Sarawak Immigration Department said that the early morning raid was conducted by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit at an oil palm plantation.

Acting on public complaints and gathered intelligence, the team checked the documents of 26 individuals who were found sleeping on-site.

Following the inspection, 14 men were taken into custody for overstaying, lack valid travelling documents and did not have valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

All of them were being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
