SAR ops underway after man falls from bridge

A 34-year-old man has been reported missing after allegedly falling into Sarawak River from Sulaiman Daud Bridge in Kampung Gita Lama.

KUCHING: A local man has been reported missing after allegedly falling into Sarawak River from Sulaiman Daud Bridge in Kampung Gita Lama here on Thursday.

The victim is identified as Aliff Fadzree Azlam, 34.

Kuching Civil Defence Force (APM) district officer Major Wan Khairul Zakwan Wan Tajudden said they received an emergency call from members of the public and dispatched a team of four to the scene, about 11km away.

Upon arrival, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was initiated by firefighters from Petra Jaya station together with the police.

“According to an initial report from the police, the incident happened at 8.50 am when the victim was in a car with his wife and child.

“Witnesses at the scene stated that he stopped the car suddenly, exited the vehicle and jumped from the bridge,” he said.

Wan Khairul added that the victim was last seen wearing a grey jacket and black pants.

At the time of writing, the search is ongoing and the victim remains unaccounted for.
