TANJUNG MANIS: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and his wife, Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, visited the Traditional Songket Weaving Centre in Kampung Rajang recently.
During the visit, Awang Tengah urged the younger generation to learn and embrace this cultural heritage.
“They need to learn this field of manufacturing so that this valuable art of cultural heritage can be preserved. With the efforts of the younger generation as well, the art of songket, which is rich in aesthetic and historical value, is not lost in the modern age,” he said.
Traditional songket, produced through time-honoured weaving techniques, commands high prices in the market, often reaching thousands of ringgit.
Awang Tengah and his wife showed their support for this valuable heritage art product by purchasing songket.
Also accompanying the Deputy Premier were Deputy Minister for Urban Planning Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif, Tanjung Manis MP Ir Yusuf Abdul Wahab, Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi, and Tanjung Manis District Officer Ismail Kasah.
