KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) stands as an inclusive institution dedicated to the advancement of all fields of knowledge, says Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He stressed that a holistic approach to education—encompassing technology, science, and the humanities—is essential for societal growth.
“Education must be holistic and not confined to a single discipline alone.
“Every field of knowledge plays an important role in societal development, and Unimas must serve as a centre of knowledge integration that unites various fields of expertise for the common good,” Wan Junaidi said during the 28th Unimas Convocation Ceremony at Detar Putra Unimas on Monday (Nov 4).
He praised Unimas as a “profound and powerful reservoir of knowledge” that supports the nation across diverse disciplines, from science and technology to history and law.
He also encouraged Unimas to act as a strategic partner to the state government in advancing Sarawak’s development goals, aligning with the state’s ambitions to attain developed status by 2030.
“With programmes that meet current industry needs and empower entrepreneurship, Unimas can play a crucial role in helping the government achieve the goal of a Prosperous Advanced Sarawak by 2030,” he stated.
He noted the importance of flexible education to ensure graduates are equipped to adapt to an evolving job market, thus contributing positively to the economy and local communities.
Efficient management practices, he added, are fundamental to achieving institutional success, optimising resources, and benefiting both the university and the wider community.
Also present at the ceremony were Wan Junaidi’s wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi; Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, and other distinguished guests.
