KUCHING: A midnight fire rendered a 45-year-old man homeless after his single-storey wooden house was engulfed at Lorong Bentara 7, Semariang Jaya Phase 2, early today.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the homeowner escaped unharmed in the 12.37 am incident.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Petra Jaya and Padungan stations rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they quickly performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.

The flames were brought under control by 1 am, followed by overhaul works to prevent any chance of reignition.

The team managed to prevent the fire from spreading, with only one nearby house sustaining minor damage.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 1.50 am. The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
