KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a trader RM1,500 in default two months in prison for illegally selling various firecrackers and fireworks in April.

Zamri, 39, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to the charge under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries up to seven years in prison, or a fine up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

He was found with 164 boxes of firecrackers and fireworks, 190 Boom firecracker sticks and 18 units of various types of Boom firecrackers by the roadside at Jalan Astana, at around 10 pm on April 2.

Based on the case facts, a police team inspected a tent at Jalan Astana and arrested Zamri on suspicion of selling and storing fireworks without a valid permit and license.

The firecrackers and fireworks were seized, and Zamri was taken into custody for further investigation.

Investigations confirmed that Zamri had sold firecrackers and fireworks without a valid license during the raid and the seizure of the case items were in his possession.
