SIBU: The traffic police here arrested a teenage boy for performing a dangerous stunt on his motorcycle during an integrated operation over the weekend.
According to Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD), the operation codenamed, ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’, took place from Saturday (Nov 2) to Sunday (Nov 3) and involved 36 personnel from the Sungai Merah, Sibu Jaya, Lanang and Sibu Central police stations.
The operation, aimed at curbing street thug activities and detecting traffic law violations, was conducted at Jalan Awang Ramli Amit, Jalan Bujang Suntong and Dataran Phase 2.
Police arrested the 13-year-old teenager for riding recklessly while performing a ‘Superman’ stunt on his motorcycle.
He was taken into custody under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.
In addition, police also confiscated 17 illegally modified motorcycles, which were impounded for further action under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
During the operation, the traffic police inspected a total of 25 motorcycles and 30 individuals, resulting in 66 traffic summonses issued for various offences.
Among them; not having licence plates, incomplete rear-view mirrors, failing to possess a driver’s licence, and exhaust modifications.
