ABU DHABI: A collaboration agreement to undertake a mangrove rewilding pilot project in Kuching Wetland National Park was signed between Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Mubadala Energy.
The two-year project is part of a longer term working relationship between the two entities as more work is envisaged in Sarawak ranging from sustainable energy and waste projects to wildlife conservation of Clouded Leopard research in protected areas.
The signing ceremony which took place on Wednesday saw SFC represented by its general manager Abang Arabi Abang Aimran while Mubadala Energy was represented by its executive vice president for technical and decarbonisation Khalfan Al Mansoori.
Present to witness the signing ceremony were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh and Mubadala Energy chief executive officer Sheikh Mansoor among others.
Abang Arabi said the pilot project in Kuching Wetland National Park will commence next year.
“The project is of paramount importance to Sarawak as it includes monitoring, reporting and verification as part of the state’s push towards recognition of environment, social and governance (ESG) in the region,” he said.
