SARATOK: Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) have been urged to take on the challenge of doubling their income from the RM100,000 capital provided by the government under the Sejahtera Komuniti (SejaTi) MADANI initiative.

Kalaka assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, said this is a challenge for the JKKK to generate income.

As per the original objective, he hopes that the SejaTi MADANI programme will be able to increase the income of the JKKK and residents in their respective areas.

“It should be remembered, the SejaTi MADANI fund is provided by the government for the community, not for individuals.

“This means it is the responsibility of the JKKK to multiply their respective incomes as much as possible.

“The question is how can the RM100,000 provided generate RM100,000 in profit for the JKKK, which can then be used for the benefit of the villagers or longhouse residents,” he said.

He mentioned this during the SejaTi MADANI Programme Cheque Replica Presentation Ceremony for the Saratok District 2024 at Kampung Kaba, yesterday. The event was officiated by Senator Pele Peter Tinggom.

He further explained that this effort is aimed at enabling the community to enjoy higher income levels, in line with Sarawak’s status recognised by the World Bank.

“Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has elevated Sarawak to a high-income region.

“However, the people have not yet to reach that level, and for this reason, the federal government and the Sarawak government have considered various initiatives to assist the people, including the SejaTi MADANI programme,” he said.

Mohamad advised all JKKK to trust their leaders.

“Trust your leaders and work with a shared vision. Everything should be done with unity (Segulai Sejalai) so that any goals can be achieved smoothly,” he added.

Under the Kalaka state constituency, a total of 22 JKKKs have been approved for funding under the SejaTi MADANI initiative.
