ABU DHABI: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) is in discussions for a potential agreement focused on forming a conglomeration with Mubadala Energy, a leading energy company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the agreement would focus on the management of Sarawak’s gas resources and new exploration projects within Sarawak’s waters.

“I am currently in discussions with the CEO (Sheikh Mansoor Mohammed Al Hamed), and this agreement revolves around a conglomeration between our side through PETROS and Mubadala.

“We will work together between PETROS and Petronas. And thirdly, this involves collaboration in downstream gas activities,” he said.

He said this during an interview following a networking breakfast with Mubadala Energy executives at Emirates Palace, Mandarin Oriental here today.

Abang Johari also highlighted Mubadala’s status as one of the Middle East’s premier oil companies, stating that it has experience working with major global firms in resource management and exploration within the petrochemical sector.

“I hope that, with this agreement between Mubadala and PETROS, we can create an industry where we utilise resources from northern to southern Sarawak, especially in unexplored areas.

He added that, once the collaboration is finalised, Sarawak plans to establish an office in Abu Dhabi, working not only with Mubadala but also with Masdar (the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).

“Both companies are owned by the Abu Dhabi government. Being state-owned, this will further strengthen efforts between the Abu Dhabi and Sarawak governments through their respective agencies: PETROS, Mubadala, SEB, and Masdar,” he said.
