DARO: The Muara Lassa Bridge is set to open for public use in January next year, says Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.

He added that the project is progressing very well, with completion nearing ahead of schedule.

“Alhamdulillah, the construction of the Muara Lassa Bridge has now reached 96 per cent completion.

“In just two more months, it will be ready for public use,” he told reporters after the final stitching ceremony at the site here, today (Nov 7).

The Muara Lassa Bridge is one of three bridges built by the Sarawak government to serve the coastal areas, alongside the Batang Paloh and Batang Igan bridges.

Spanning 2.43km, the Muara Lassa Bridge is the second-longest bridge in Sarawak, with a total project cost of RM597.58 million.

Aidel added that the bridge project initially began in 2019 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also praised the use of the ‘river pier’ construction method in building bridges across Sarawak, noting that it has enabled the state to construct 16 major bridges along the coastal and secondary routes.

“All the bridges from Limbang to Kuching are progressing smoothly and are expected to be completed by the end of next year or early 2026.

“With these techniques, construction has proceeded smoothly without significant delays,” he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol highlighted that the bridge stands as evidence of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders’ commitment under the guidance of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to develop rural infrastructure.

“In addition to roads and bridges, other major infrastructure developments like water and electricity supply, which require significant funding, are part of the government’s efforts to close the comfort gap between urban and rural communities,” he added.

Also in attendance was Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad.
