MIRI: An attempt by two men to smuggle 21.9kg of various drugs into the arrival hall of Miri Airport was foiled when they were arrested by the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on Wednesday (Nov 6).

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the drugs were valued at over RM1.99 million.

“The team seized 10.8kg of Erimin 5 pills, 4.1kg of ecstasy, and 7kg of methamphetamine. The seized drugs could cater to around 102,817 users.

“Background checks revealed that the first suspect had prior records related to vehicle theft and drugs, while the other suspect had no previous records,” he said in a statement today.

Preliminary urine tests indicated that both suspects tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and benzo.

Mancha added that the suspects had been paid RM5,000 to bring the drugs from Malaya to Sarawak via Miri Airport.

“The suspects are being remanded for six days from Nov 7 to Nov 13, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
