MIRI: Narcotics police arrested two local men for allegedly possessing drugs worth RM2,730 at a housing area here on Wednesday.
Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement on Friday said the suspects were arrested at around 3 pm.
During the raid, police found one plastic packet and another plastic bag stored inside a container containing 18.25 grammes of ketamine.
The drugs, along with a Nissan Fairlady vehicle worth RM80,000, were seized for further investigation.
Alexson said the suspects are being remanded for three days to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment for no less than two years but not more than five years, and be subjected to whipping of no less than three times but not exceeding nine times,” he added.
He also advised the public, who have information about drug abuse activities, to report it to the nearest police station so that such activities can be curbed and eradicated together.
