SARIKEI: The construction of the Batang Rajang Bridge on Jalan Sungai Pasi, valued at RM321 million, is on track for completion by March 2025, according to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah, who also serves as the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, confirmed that the project, which will be a crucial connection between Sarikei and Tanjung Manis, is progressing as scheduled.

“I am very pleased with the latest developments. This infrastructure project is another testament to the Sarawak government’s commitment to improving connectivity and fostering development”, Uggah stated during the stitching ceremony for the bridge, today.

The 1.4-kilometre-long and 12.4-metre-wide Batang Rajang Bridge is part of Sarawak’s broader effort to enhance its coastal road network, connecting urban areas with rural communities.

The bridge will reduce travel time between Sarikei and Tanjung Manis from 2.5 hours to just 40 minutes, significantly improving accessibility and fostering economic growth in the region.

“This will be the third bridge across the Batang Rajang, complementing the Lanang and Durin bridges. Once completed, it will bring substantial benefits to the local community and the region’s overall development”, Uggah added.

He also emphasised that the project reflects the Sarawak government’s dedication to providing critical infrastructure and improving the quality of life for rural communities.

“I am confident that the Public Works Department (JKR) is working diligently to meet the completion date and adhere to all project specifications,” he noted.

The ceremony was also attended by Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, who is also the Kuala Rajang assemblyman.

The bridge is part of a 17-kilometre road project linking Jalan Pasi and Tanjung Manis, a significant initiative to strengthen regional connectivity and economic integration.
