KUCHING: The second phase of the Sarawak Islamic Skills Institute (Ikmas) construction project has been fully completed, with a capacity to accommodate 550 students.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the RM34.289 million project was completed with the issuance of the Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) on Aug 9.

He expressed optimism that the Ministry’s contribution in managing the construction of these additional buildings would support Ikmas’ progress towards becoming a higher education institution that emphasises a balanced approach to academic and spiritual development, including moral and personal integrity.

“I understand that Ikmas trains students who have completed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in Islamic Studies and Tahfiz at the diploma level, along with vocational skills certification.

“I am very grateful and proud that once again, the Works Ministry and the Public Works Department (PWD) have completed and handed over another project that enhances public welfare and provides Ikmas with the means to deliver improved services.

“I hope this project benefits its intended recipients in a meaningful way,” he said.

He said this during the handover ceremony of the Ikmas Phase Two Construction Project to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) at Telaga Air on Saturday (Nov 9).

Spanning 2.4 acres, the project has expanded facilities including a two-storey academic block with a principal’s office, lecturer rooms, lecture halls, and a main meeting room; and two two-story blocks for a female dormitory, accommodating up to 250 students.

The dormitory block also includes a management office, a treatment room, and support spaces.

Additionally, the project includes the construction of a mosque with a capacity for 700 people, a 40,000-gallon water tower, a sports court, and parking for 118 cars and 233 motorcycles.
