KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 35-year-old man has been arrested for filing a false police report to claim insurance for his damaged vehicle.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the suspect lodged a report at 12.02 am on Saturday (Nov 9), alleging that he was ambushed while driving his Hilux Revo.

“In the report, the suspect claimed he was blocked by two cars and attacked by masked men armed with sticks. He said he managed to escape by ramming the two cars,” Jaimi said in a statement.

However, investigations revealed no evidence to support the suspect’s claims.

He subsequently admitted to fabricating the story to claim insurance for his damaged vehicle.

Jaimi added the suspect has prior criminal records and tested positive for drug use.

Police will investigate the case under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum fine of RM2,000 or up to six months’ jail, or both.

Jaimi warned the public against lodging false reports, as it can mislead authorities and distort crime statistics.
