SIBU: An elderly driver was arrested to assist with investigations following a fatal accident along Jalan Lada yesterday (Nov 11).
According to Sibu Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the 73-year-old woman will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The fatal collision, involving a car and a motorcycle, occurred at around 5.25 am.
“The accident happened when a 19-year-old man, riding a motorcycle, was unable to avoid a car driven by the elderly woman that was exiting a right turn to enter Lorong Lada 3.
“As a result, the victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.
His body was later taken to Sibu Hospital for post-mortem.
