SARAWAK Energy Berhad (SEB) does not provide compensation for electrical equipment damage caused by power outages, but users may appeal by submitting necessary documents, such as a police report, photos of the damage, and repair receipts.
Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi assured that SEB will conduct a follow-up investigation upon receiving these documents, noting that 191 compensation claims have been received since 2019.
He further revealed that to date, a total of RM800,000 has been paid out in response to 106 approved compensation claims.
“Essentially, no compensation will be provided to users for damage to electrical equipment caused by power outages.
“However, an appeal can be made by submitting a letter to Sarawak Energy along with a copy of the police report, photo evidence of the damage, and repair receipts,” he said.
Dr. Abdul Rahman was responding to a query from Datuk Mohd Chee Kadir (GPS-Kabong) during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
Mohd Chee had inquired about SEB’s policy on compensating users for equipment damage resulting from power outages and the procedures for filing a compensation claim.
Addressing Mohd Chee’s concerns, Abdul Rahman further explained that power disruptions in Kabong are primarily caused by external factors, which include severe weather conditions, flash floods, and landslides.
Additionally, some outages result from broken poles due to vehicle collisions, excavation work by contractors, fallen trees, and temporary disruptions caused by wildlife or tree branches making contact with power lines.
