KUCHING: Agrobank has presented RM233,045.09 in business zakat for 2023 to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), an entity under the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), today (Nov 15).
The handover ceremony took place at the Sarawak Premier’s Office, with Agrobank Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin presenting the contribution to MIS President Datuk Misnu Taha.
The event was witnessed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking to reporters, Tengku Ahmad reiterated Agrobank’s commitment to providing annual zakat contributions to the Sarawak government to support those in need.
“Next year, we will continue to contribute zakat to ensure the benefits reach the appropriate groups,” he said.
He also disclosed discussions with Abang Johari on strategies to strengthen Sarawak’s agricultural sector, focusing on enhancing the Self-Sufficiency Level (SSL) in targeted industries.
“We explored opportunities to channel financial assistance toward food improvement sectors such as paddy cultivation, shrimp farming, and coconut production.
“We fully support the Sarawak government’s initiatives to develop the agro-food sector,” he added.
Abang Johari also acknowledged Agrobank’s plans to expand its services in Sarawak with two new micro-branches in Spaoh and Gedong, set to open early next year.
Also present was TBS General Manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.
