MUKAH: The Regional Corridor Development Agency (RECODA) has launched the Mukah District Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Programme 2024, focusing on environmental preservation and sustainable development.
It was officiated by Deputy Minister of Economy and Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Taib here on Saturday.
In her speech, she urged collective efforts toward sustainability and expressed hopes that the programme inspired positive change and long-term support for SDG efforts.
“Remember, we only have one mother earth. Let us preserve and care for it as it did for us throughout our lives not only for today, but for the livelihood of our future generations.
“I hope today’s programme was able to inspire change especially among participants heading towards achieving and supporting SDG efforts that benefits the community in the long run,” she said.
The programme included a beach cleanup initiative which saw 400 participants, including 150 students, community leaders, and environmental advocates.
The event also featured interactive workshops, eco-tourism activities, and community programmes fostering awareness of environmental sustainability.
Local educational institutions, including Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Mukah, CENTEXS, and Politeknik Mukah, showcased SDG-related initiatives, offering insights into their contributions toward sustainable development.
Additionally, Press Metal supported the COMMUNITY@SCORE programme, assisting four local women entrepreneurs and a fisherman, Irwan Teni.
The entrepreneurs, aspiring bakers from here, received support to enhance their businesses, while Irwan gained assistance to improve his fishing operations.
The programme also celebrated the rich culture and heritage of Mukah, emphasising the community’s long-standing relationship with the ocean, which plays a vital role in both their cultural identity and livelihoods.
