LUNDU: The implementation of Family Day activities in every ministry and government agency should be made an annual event, particularly in November.

Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said all ministries, agencies, and state governments are encouraged to join in supporting and realising November as National Family Month.

“I have been informed that, to date, three ministries have already held Family Day programmes within their respective organisations, namely the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Economy.

“Congratulations and thank you,” she said during the Kem Kasih Keluarga programme held at Pugu Beach here Saturday (Nov 16).

Nancy who is Santubong MP also encouraged the private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and community groups to organise family wellness programmes according to their capacities.

She added that employers who implement Family Day and other family-related activities in the workplace are eligible for tax deductions.

Additionally, she noted that during the 2025 Budget presentation last month, the Prime Minister entrusted her ministry with a continued mandate to advance the family empowerment agenda in Malaysia, supported by an allocation of RM3.6 billion.

“We will plan and implement programmes that will benefit all members of society inclusively.

“The 2025 Budget also underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the family institution without neglecting customs and propriety,” she said.

Also present at the event were the Secretary-General to the Ministry Datuk Dr Maziah Che Yusoff; Chairperson of the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim; LPPKN Director-General Abdul Shukur Abdullah; Lundu District Officer Awang Yusup Awang Mostapha; Director-General of the Department of Women’s Development Hanani Sapit; CEO of the National Welfare Foundation Nordina Haron; and Director of the Social Institute of Malaysia Dr Faridah Awang.

Kasih Keluarga, Jiwa Madani has been chosen as the theme for the November National Family Month 2024 celebration.

This theme emphasises the importance of love and harmony within families as a foundation for building a society.

Meanwhile the Kem Kasih Keluarga, held for the first time, is one of the flagship programmes of the November National Family Month 2024 celebration.
