KUCHING: Tan Sri Datuk William Mawan Ikom has been reelected as the President of Sarawak Scout Council for the 2025-2027 term.

The new office bearers also saw Mohamad Safri Datuk Abdillah elected as Deputy President, while Juma’at Ibrahim, Kho Ik Teck and Mohadi Mobin were elected as Vice Presidents.

Peter Chai Mui Seng is elected as the Executive Committee Chairman, while Awang Mahadil Datuk Awang Bujang is elected as Deputy Chairman, Zasran Abdullah elected as Honorary Secretary and Khairul Anwar Shazali elected as Honorary Treasurer.

The elected members are Mohd Yusuf Long, Lee Kong Shin, Lionel Tang Chee Why, Dayang Suhaila Awang Suhaili and Thian Hiong Boon.

In his speech, Mawan praised the close cooperation between the council members and the scout commissioners who have made a great contribution in organising various scouting activities and programmes throughout the year.

“I acknowledge that good collaboration between all parties has played a major role in the successful organisation of activities that foster the spirit of leadership, cooperation, and skills among Sarawak scouts.

“I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all those involved in ensuring that the Sarawak scout movement continues to thrive.

“This collaboration needs to continue, and I hope this will bring greater success in the future,” he said.

In addition, he also called for the Sarawak scout movement to adopt the latest technology such as artificial intelligence in the organisation of scouting programmes.

“The use of AI can increase efficiency in activity management as well as provide a more interesting and interactive experience to scout members, thereby helping to produce a more competitive generation of scouts in a world that is growing rapidly with technology.

“We will continue to play an important role in shaping good characters and leadership of the young generation in the state.

“With strong support from all parties, the Sarawak scout movement will continue to move forward and produce more versatile young leaders,” he added.
