SIBU: The implementation of all government initiatives aimed at benefitting children is a vital investment, said Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

The Pelawan assemblyman said that the effort is crucial and must involve collaboration at all levels of society, starting with parents, families, and communities, to maximise the potential of children.

“I am confident that with the commitment of all parties, the nation’s aspiration to enhance the well-being of children towards achieving their full potential can be realised,” he said.

He said this in his text-of-speech read by his representative Councillor Michelle Law, at the World Children’s Day 2024 celebration held at the Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) Hall here today.

Tiang stressed that everyone, including parents, teachers, leaders in the public and private sectors, the media, community activists, and especially the youth, must play an active role in ensuring that the children’s agenda remains relevant to society.

“Children’s Day should serve as an effective starting point to acknowledge, promote, and celebrate children’s rights, which need to be translated into meaningful actions and discussions, ultimately serving as a foundation for a better quality of life for children,” he added.

He also stressed the importance of instilling noble values and Eastern cultural etiquette to educate and shape the character of children in Malaysia.

“Children need to be nurtured with the right framework so that we can build a progressive, harmonious, and sovereign Malaysia,” he said.

Also present was the chairman of the Sibu Branch of the National Consumer Action Council (MTPN), Lucas Lau.
