MUKAH: The traditional cuisine of the community here must be preserved for posterity, said Deputy Minister of Economy Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

“This is because traditional food is part of the culture of our community.

“Therefore, it needs to be maintained so that it is better known by people from other communities,” she said at the opening of the Mukah Food Festival 2024, at Tapak Kaul Mukah, here, last night.

Hanifah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mukah, also praised the efforts of traders who have introduced other food to Mukah.

“With the introduction of such food, our community can buy and taste it for themselves,” she said, adding, “this can indirectly increase tourism activities here.”

In the meantime those from elsewhere can sample the traditional food of our community, she said.

Meanwhile, Dalat and Mukah District Council chief Aini Suhaili said this time, participation in terms of stalls had received an encouraging response from traders.
