KUCHING: Qaybee Tennis Team triumphed at the Sarawak Inter-State/Club Invitational Tennis
Championship, securing the prestigious YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah Cup, along with
RM10,000, medals, and a trophy.
Team manager Khairuddin Baharom, a former national player, expressed his pride in their performance.
“This is our first time competing here, although we’ve participated in other tournaments,” Khairuddin said.
The Qaybee team comprises a mix of Malaysian and Indonesian players, with two-thirds of the roster
made up of ex-national players.
The team, founded in 2017, made its debut in the Sarawak tournament following an invitation from
Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) president Datuk Patrick Liew.
“Our goal is to unite former national players from both Malaysia and Indonesia.
“We’ve been working towards this vision for years,” he said.
Speaking to reporters at the SLTA compound on Sunday (Nov 17), Khairuddin praised the tournament’s
organisation.
“It’s been top-notch, and I’ve always known Sarawak’s standards to be high, not just locally but
internationally,” he added.
The runners-up, Singapore ALC, took home RM5,000 and medals, while third-place finisher CTC from
Indonesia won RM2,000 and medals.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was
present to award the prizes.
